Precis som midsommar, påsk och jul, firas Världstoalettdagen en gång per år, den 19 november. Till skillnad från de andra mer välkända högtiderna är det en dag som vi på WRS vill lyfta fram lite extra.
Vi är partners till Toaletter utan gränser (TUG), en ideell förening som hjälper privatpersoner och företag att medfinansiera toaletter i låginkomstländer. Varje år ser WRS till att det byggs fler toaletter runt om i världen, något som kan följas på TUGs egna Toalettkarta!
I bilden ser du exempelvis en toalett i Achocalla, Bolivia, som de har hjälpt organisationen Sumaj Huasi att bygga.
Vi på WRS fortsätter att stötta TUGs arbete och pratade bland annat på deras event den 19 november. Så här uttryckte sig vår kollega Malin Smith om TUG:
My colleagues and I have a large interest in ecological sanitation and nutrient recycling, both in a Swedish and an international context. So, we are very happy to be a partner organization of Toilets without borders. We use to send Christmas gifts to some organizations every year and Toilets without borders is always one of them.
The ecological toilets that you help building is a clear and obvious sanitation solution according to us – the nutrients come to use instead of causing harm somewhere else. And we love that you are a transparent organization and that we can see exactly where our money goes.
We find it smart that you work in a way that involves the toilet owners. You create commitment among them, which is an important sustainability aspect.
Apart from the Christmas gifts, as a partner organization you contribute to the long-term operation of the organization, and operation of the organization is important for the money to reach the toilets. To sum up, I’d like to say thank you a lot for the fantastic work toilets without borders do and it’ll be interesting to hear about what comes up next.
